San Antonio man stabs family dog, faces felony animal cruelty charge (ACS)

SAN ANTONIO - A local man was arrested after stabbing the family dog back in late April on San Antonio's West Side.

According to The City of San Antonio Animal Care Services, the disturbance happened near the 200 block of Coopwood Avenue on April 27th at a home.

Police say that suspect, John Schaffer threatened to kill the family dog before stabbing the animal.

The young American Staffordshire Terrier was brought to ACS's veterinary clinic where the dog suffered a deep puncture wound to his neck.

After being treated, "Zander" was fostered by a pair of ACS officers until he found his forever home.

The San Antonio Police Department says that Schaffer faces a 3rd-degree felony charge of Animal Cruelty-Torture. The felony is punishable by up to ten years in jail with a fine of up to $10,000.
